These basic principles are essential knowledge for anyone who wants to work within the sector.
The training experience is made up of individual modules, each covering a different topic. Upon completion of all modules, you will have gained significant knowledge on steam awareness and achieved an in-depth understanding of how it applies to your workplace. The objectives of the course are to ensure that participants understand these basics, can identify hazards and know how to operate steam systems according to Health and Safety guidelines. It will also provide opportunities for participants to practice their new skills with a range of interactive exercises.

This course is designed for operators and managers responsible for the upkeep of boiler equipment and steam systems. It is important that anyone working on or with steam systems understands how they function, how to recognize hazards and risks associated with these systems and what steps can be taken to control them.
The course equips participants with the skills they need to move on to higher levels of training, such as the Boiler Operations Accreditation Scheme (BOAS), or to further their careers in the boiler and steam industry.
The course will educate participants on a variety of aspects relating to steam systems. They will learn about the basic principles of different types of steam systems, including an overview of the operational mechanisms. On the first day of the course, participants will be trained on INDG436 and BG01. Additionally, participants will be made aware of potential hazards associated with steam systems and what can be done to mitigate these risks.
The course will be assessed with a formal exam at the end of the course.
